Global Podd 40. Corona – An African success story

The African continent accounts for 17 per cent of the global population, but only 3.5 per cent of reported Covid-19 deaths worldwide. What's more, Africa's overall infection rate has been dropping steadily over the past two months. What’s behind the continent’s success?  What role does music have - and what can Europe and the US learn from Africa?

Episode 40 takes on Covid-19 in Africa and how a continent succeeded in keeping Covid at bay through music.

Listen to:

  • Bobi Wine, musician and president candidate in Uganda.
  • Dipo Oyeleye, researcher from Nigeria, currently at University of Wisconsin, writing his thesis on covid songs.
  • Chibuzo Okonta MD and director of Doctors Without Borders in West Africa.
  • Patience Mususa, environmental anthropologist specialising on mining and human settlement, researcher at the Nordic Africa Institute.
